Re: Resorts with waterslides? « Result #2 Yesterday at 11:07pm »
The Coral de Sol Puerto Plata (?), previously Breezes Puerto Plata, has a great waterslide. It is a real one, part of the stone structure of the pool and leads right into the pool itself.

Bus or Priv Transport « Result #5 Yesterday at 10:29pm »
Hey Guys...was looking over the above thread regarding the taxi fares...I have always just taken the tour company bus...I am alittle confused, as a rule...is there a large benefit to taking a priv taxi?

Re: Melia Caribe wedding!! « Result #7 Yesterday at 10:08pm »
I'm getting married in May and I am trying to decide if we should get a DJ or not. We are having a private reception so we definitely need music, but we are having the reception outside so I'm not sure if n iPod speaker would be loud enough. I am trying to avoid the hassle of downloading a bunch of music for the reception but a DJ is expensive and I'm not sure if it's worth the money.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?
Thanks!
P.S. We have 20 guests booked for the wedding thus far but I think that will pretty much be the final number.
Unfortunately, the answer to your question is yes. Over booking is common, but not just in the DR. We were only affected by it directly once, and that was in Cuba. Our travel supplier upgraded us to a higher rated resort and it all turned out well in the end...
We're quite sure your tour company representative would find you comparable or superior accomodation.
Thanks sunlovers! I'm an optimist so I'm also sure all we be well.
I was surprised to read at the Air France website that the company practices over-booking!
Only Tourist Taxis (the expensive guys) are permitted to make pickups inside of Playa Dorada. Non-tourist taxis are permitted to make drop-offs but then must leave empty. If you want to use a non-tourist taxi you will have to make arrangements to meet him outside of the gates.
Gregg
(Sorry, Bob composing while you posted.)
Gregg, can I assume that Martin Espinal is considered a tourist taxi then? He picks up inside, at least by appointment.

I think you are correct I did some research and it said it is adults only for these rooms, Ya who! I love kids, just not beside me where there is a pool, I would worry they might fall in.

The prices are really good but I`m nervous about using them....I heard that they cancelled a flight to POP before X`mas from Ottawa. I was looking at the last two dates out of YHZ but I`m scared of them being cancelled...I`m also worried that the flight times will change from a mid-day arrival to night. I see that most of the flights to POP are night arrivals. The prices are certainly the best I`ve seen by far though...
Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana - Oct. 09 Gran Bahia Principe - Jamaica - Oct. 08 DC, New York and Las Vegas in between Riu Palace Macao - Sept. 03 Riu Taino - Sept. 02
I know that depending on what you are looking for in your vacation - will greatly decide you the price...
But how about just "cold beer" "OK food" "Good Beach (white sand)"???
We want to go to Punta Canta this year and only have Puerto Plata, Breezes March 2009 to compare to.
Are there specific deals out there for Feb or march (Late Feb or Early March)?? That I can jump on?
Or should we wait it out for a few more weeks? We are NOT ones to plan a "last minute" vacation - and would not want to wait much longer than Jan 15th to decide and book.
Thanks all!!
I will not tell you where to book but if you have only been to Breezes POP you will be in for a treat in Punta Cana no matter where you stay, it is that much better even in the lowest class resort.

Re: OK... Where is the best value for $$? « Result #25 Yesterday at 7:53pm »
I was at Breezes puerto plata in 04. The beach there was terrible, but the food was edible and the Presidente was cold. lol I do agree that any beach in Punta Cana is better then at Breezes. As for the resort and the food, that could vary quite abit. If you Like Presidente make sure the resort you are interested in still serves it, some resorts are not serving it anymore, so I am told

Re: Punta Cana Princess « Result #27 Yesterday at 7:10pm »
pcp3, I'm curious about your question. Have you heard something that leads you to think that PCP has changed hands? I have read many recent reviews on other forums that are very favorable and no mention of change of ownership. They did have a excellent customer relations representative ( Diana Casoliba) leave recently. We (4) are heading there again on March 5th.

Thing is when you get on your bus at the airport they tell you which hotel you ll be staying at.............how can you go wrong with ANY 5 star in PC at $849.....Flair Air which I know nothing about but have heard no bad comments yet. check it out

Re: video cameras « Result #34 Yesterday at 5:29pm »
If you are not looking for a fancy video camera, I would recommend rather a small pocket digital camera, with great video capabilities. With a 16 gb card you can take lots of photos and tens of minutes of video. (just Google for a Panasonic ZS3 or so - Has dedicated video button, so you are ready anytime for a shot)

If is getting better is good. But just sharing the info: in the heavy stomach issues it is indeed very important to keep the body hydrated. But it is very-very important to eat something solid, what is absorbing the liquids . Otherwise is nothing to hold in your digestive system the fluids. Well now I'm ready too for that omlette ...

"Do the hotels over-book like the airlines do and if so, what would happen if you arrived at a hotel and they told you "Sorry, there are no more rooms available"?"....
Unfortunately, the answer to your question is yes. Over booking is common, but not just in the DR. We were only affected by it directly once, and that was in Cuba. Our travel supplier upgraded us to a higher rated resort and it all turned out well in the end.
On both of our visits to the Bahia Principe San Juan, we were approached by staff during our stay and asked if we would like to spend a few nights at another resort. The Bahia was overbooked and they wanted to make space for new arrivals. We told them they could send the new arrivals to another resort because we were happy right there. The overbooking tends to happen on weekends. However, we try to travel mid-week and the resorts are never at capacity when we arrive.
We're quite sure your tour company representative would find you comparable or superior accomodation.
