:) From Toronto: Casa Del Mar is $948.64 plus $279. taxes
IHD is $1247.84 plus $$279. taxes.

Flights out are April 16.

Will wait for a last minute deal on the IHD but the CDM might be 2nd choice. It's already around the price range we would be looking at for our Spring trip.

But... there is always Cuba (again) ;) 8-) :-*

A day trip from Bavaro to IBHD would not be practical - it's about 1.5 hours by car from PC to Bayahibe where IBHD is. We have not been to Bavaro but I hear the beach is nicer but the ocean is rougher (Atlantic water versus warm Carribbean). I would like to try Bavaro but am told the scuba diving is not that great - maybe if the price is right I would compromise and give it a try. If not it will be my 5th trip in a row to IBHD

It's not a lot of people's idea of a good time, but it happens regularly! Everybody who travels from Punta Cana to Saona Island does this transfer since the boats leave from Bayahibe. Many do comment that it's a long day, but most feel it's well worth it. If you're interested in seeing this part of the island, the distance and trip is more practical than some of the other excursions that are offered. A lot of us have to fly into Punta Cana when staying in Bayahibe too.

We have been to both resorts, IBHD is about the same size as IB Dominicana/Punta Cana, there is no elevators in IBHD, block 4 is 2 stories only, the best blocks to stay in are 3 and 6 which are center of resort, 5 minutes to lobby, buffet and same to beach.... excellent place, lovely resort, food outstanding

Are any of the rooms in block 4 water view? The closest to the beach the better! But I don't want to be near a pool or music where it will be noisy. Thanks. Kathy

block 4 is nearest the beach and the furthest away from any noise emanating from the lobby, the theatre and anything else where patrons go to. It faces the ocean, the steak restaurant and the beach, close to the pool and a 2-3 minute walk to the buffet....
hope you enjoy it as much as we did

I completely agree with navy in saying that block four would be your best bet for a room 8-)

How often does the resort accomodate these room requests?

It depends on the season you are going and also how busy they are. However in most cases they do try and accommodate your request as much as possible. But can you just imagine if everyone wanted the same block of rooms, what would they do then? 8-)

Thanks!
I kind of figured that. I check in on 1/31. Is this the busy season?

I would think that is the start of a very busy season. However email the resort one or two weeks before your arrival to make your request(s). They normally do not get your name until then 8-)

We are also going to IHD in March. These questions may sound trivial, but does anyone know a) whether yogurt is available at breakfast, and b) whether cream (rather than milk) is available for coffee? During 2 trips to DR last year we ate yogurt every morning, and did not get sick at all; I really believe it helps your tummy. As for coffee, at the Coral Canoa it was not good either black or with milk and no cream was available (probably wouldn't have helped anyway). Thanks.

I have emailed them, i was just curious.
Do you happen to know if IBHD has an internet cafe?
Thanks for all of your wisdom.

No question is trivial!
There is a nice selection of yogurts available at breakfast..your tummy will be happy!
I doubt that there is cream, though..I may be wrong..but I can't recall seeing that as an option..
I drink coffee black, anyways..
Have a fantastic trip..bring some Coffee Mate with you!

Thank you - we're really looking forward to this resort; it sounds wonderful.

My hubby just asked if we need water shoes, but from what I have read my impression is that if you stay to the right of the lighthouse it is nice sand. Would this be correct?

You are right..no water shoes needed at all..
You can walk out quite a ways with no problem at all..
the water is calm and warm ..
infact, they do the Aqua Aerobics in the ocean!
People grab a drink or two, and mingle as they stand in the ocean!!
An air mattress is equally fun..float and have a cocktail..
nice life!

Are there little coffee pots in the rooms? I loved that Santa Domingo coffee from my last visit to the DR. Santa Domingo was the brand. I find Dominican coffee to be very smooth.

No..there are no coffee makers in the rooms..
which sucks..
I used to like to have a coffee, sit on the balcony, and read my book in the morning before the resort wakes up!

WE'll be arriving on March 25, 2007 and we have a jr Suite. Are they located in one building or are there a couple in each building. Sorry to hear no coffee pots in the rooms.
Do they have room service in the early morning ?

No coffee pots in the rooms is a REAL bummer. I like to do that too. Sit on the balcony in the morning have a nice cup of corree and watch the resort wake up. Guess I will have to find another routine here.

You can always go to the restaurant when it first opens and grab a cup or two of coffee and come back to your room and sit out on the balcony. Just an idea of course 8-)

I always "just in case" bring a one-cup coffee pot and some coffee. I would be a train wreck if I woke up and didn't have coffee (spoiled)....I roll out of bed and get that pot going!!!
And I agree, I became "coffee" bag thief in Punta Cana, we had coffee pots and I would go and search out bags of it to bring home. The coffee there is amazing!!! It was funny at customs to open my bag and see bags and bags of coffee!!!!!!!!!

Thats dedicated, bringing your own coffee pot. Not sure if i would have room. as a man i try to travel very light. I may bring my coffee mug and find the closest place to get me a cup then bring it back. would be a nice time for a walk and to reserve my spot for the day. Do you know if the vendors close by sell the coffee? I bought about 15 pounds in punta cana. It was a sad day when i brewed the last pot.

We have always gone at 5:30 or so to get coffee/tea at the main buffet. If it isn't made yet, they have self-dispense machines there (2) that give you coffe or expresso. The farthest walk you can then have to Block 4 is about 5 minutes. Block 5/6/7 are the closest as they are on the side of the buffet. Yogurt comes out at about 6 AM as well as the baked goods.

Thanks for the info. That sounds great. Not sure if I will be up that early but the plan sounds great. How is the coffee from these self serve things? Is it better to just wait for them to brew a fresh pot?
How early do I need to get down to get a nice palapa at the beach?

Be at the beach to reserve your palapa by 0730 the latest!
And check your neighbour's stuff when you decide where you want to set up.
A couple of times, we had a fantastic spot..only to be disturbed by a loud, obnoxious family next to us...after 2 days of them, I was ready to lose it!

The self-brew machines make excellent coffee - they use fresh-ground beans that grind just before brewing the coffee. But at about 5:30 to 6 they start making the coffee in big 5 gallon urns that use a drip/filter process that takes a while until it's ready- not until about 6:30 in time for the continental breakfast. If you don't mind a little walk to go in the water there are always palapas available until at least 9AM at the left side by the dive shop - the least populated area where we always hung out - it's maybe 200 feet to the main beach area to the right - we also hated to be near rowdy neighbors - especially frustrating when you are trying to read a book or take a nap and want quiet time.
