If so, How was the diving ?

The diving is some of the best I have ever seen - I do photography and over a week I usually have the opportunity to take about 300 pictures. Great dive boats and good people doing the diving. I have gone there 4 times in a row. Sorry - no room service. I see you are from Boston too so you must be going down on GWV which we have done for the 4 times we were there.

Well, I am glad to hear this, about the diving. My wife & I have been to most of the Caribbean, Diving, and also do a lot of Underwater Photography. It's one of our do things together. We just love it. Not so bad on the room service, as I have a small 4 cup coffee pot I will bring with me. Love coffee in the early morning, on the balcony. But, I am glad to hear of the diving. Can you recommend any sites, that i should not miss ? Oh, yes, I am going GWV.
We have wanted to go here for the past 3 years, and now we finally made it. You do dive with the Resort Dive Center ? Or is there another Agency you want to recommend.
Thanks for your help. You know how it is when you go to a new Island, which you have never been before.

The divemasters are really great - we have now found 3 seahorses that let me photograph them - my shot of a lifetime. We found 2 seahorses at a site called Deseo (about 30 ft) and one at Park Reef (about 60 ft). Give me your e-mail and I can send them to you if you wish - both only 5-10 minutes from the resort. And they have a pier making boarding real easy. Make sure you ask for a bucket for the cameras that you can fill from a hose right near the boat. I reserve with Dressel divers in Spain (headquarters) and get a 15% pre-pay discount. They sell a shrimp pack of 6 dives for about $200 and a gorilla pack of 10 dives. Any dives you don't use they give you a credit slip for dives at any Dressel dive shop for 2 years. You can also pay cash at the dive shop and get 10% off. Let me know if you need the Dressel e-mail in Spain.

Am also looking at this resort and casa del mar for April and am wondering why there are barely any reviews from Canada. Anyone know?

If you mean hardly any Iberostar reviews from Canada, I think it's because you can't get there from here!

I have researched going there but find it rather impossible, especially from smaller centres. The more difficult the tour operators make it to get somewhere, the less likely we are to travel there.

I've had people suggest certain resorts to me, but if the only way I can get there is to pay nearly twice the price because I have to book air and hotel separately, I just won't do it.

For me, Casa del Mar is relatively easy to get to (but still not offered by as many companies as I would like and I can't there by a direct flight, be it to Santo Domingo, La Romana or Punta Cana) and is therefore made more desireable to visit.

Both signature and transat sell the Iberostar which is why I don't understand why it seems Canadians don't go here?

I think it is because it is expensive..thats why not many people go there..both the Iberostar and Casa Del Mar are.
We went in November 06..only because we got a fantastic last minute deal..
for a family of 4..
I would not pay what regular brochure prices are for 4..
these properties rarely go as a sell off..which is how alot of people travel ( we do, anyways).
I loved the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus..and would return again in a last minute!

:) sungod - seems like you can get to this resort from Montreal, although not sure how.

"bargo" (I think) lives on the West Coast of Canada and had to arrange through a travel agent to get to this resort and a "private" transfer from the airport, if I am correct. I know it was someone here.

I know of one Montreal couple who went to this resort and told us it was the best vacation they had ever had and would return to this resort in a minute, if the price was right.

Maybe a concern would be which airport you land into from Canada? :-*

Hi everyone,

We will be there in June, although we live in Ottawa, we leave from Toronto.... don't mind the drive, and the price is right. Looking forward to some diving since Samana was a bust :'(

I agree with KAOS. I believe the price of the resort plays into how many Canadians go there. I can get to it from Halifax, but it's a bit pricey for us. For example, for March it's listed at about $1,800 (tax in) for one week, compared to about $1,500 for Casa Del Mar.

It sounds like a wonderful resort and I would certainly consider it, though, if I ever saw a deal offered.

We fly out of Toronto and there is know problem getting a flight from here. The price for Apr.19 is $1239. before tx, which is why we're waiting for last minute deals, this resort was an option, but we may end up going back to Cuba if we don't get a good deal for this. I did see a last min. for Jan.21 last week at $867, so who knows what the price will drop to for April. But this doesn't seem exceptionally high that Canadians wouldn't go here, punta cana, jamaica can be this price or higher, this is what confuses me.

If there is three hundred dollars difference between the resorts I would assume you get what you pay for. You might find one that is a lot cheaper but their service, food, grounds and pools do not compare anywhere close to the one that is three hundred dollars more 8-)

stillgotit,

We luv Iberostar hotels. We stayed at the Iberostar Punta Cana in 2000 and the Iberostar Cozumel in 2003. The Hacienda Dominicus looks wonderfull... can't wait :D 8-) The diving should be decent as well.

Sungod, flying out of Toronto certainly helps for more competitive pricing. I think trying to get there from Halifax is the problem. Oh well -- when I win the lottery price won't be a factor *LOL*

It seems I started this thread years ago! But here I am, only 16 days to being there!

Pat, I found you a deal out of Halifax for 2 persons, all taxes included, with Signature for March 25th: $3032.

I just can't wait to confirm all this information I was given by all of you.
