Bavaro & Punta Cana – Weather

We appreciate our Bavaro friend PJT's daily efforts,

PJT is now using his own onsite temprature devices rather than relying on PUJ airport, they were supplied to him free by a weather company (he will tell you the name) so PJT can give you REAL TIME Weather reports direct from his villa in Punta Cana

Thanks for the efforts PJT.

Another weather question.

Looking back over the past few years, July looks like a pretty dry month to visit Punta Cana - can anyone confirm one way or another?

July has a tendency to be dry and hot. However, one may get a brief shower during the day.

Because July is within the hurricane season, should a tropical storm or cyclone pass within the area, the accompanying heavy and consistant rainfall would alter the dry pattern.

PJT

[PJT is taking a break after almost two years of non-stop weather observations and will be traveling to the States to visit family and bask in some New England weather. NCSUTURF has stepped forward and will be observing the weather for the Bavaro/Punta Cana area beginning Monday. PJT thanks him for his kind assistance and asks we all wish him good luck and welcome him on board.]

Charby- February is slightly cooler on average then what we have weather wise currently. I have noticed in years past that the winds can pickup on the beach at night. Although certaintly not every evening.

Novascotiabride-A 60% chance of showers just means there's a 6 in 10 chance we might get a passing shower. Usually lasting only a few minutes to be followed by beautiful sunshine!

Long term forecasts are always tough. But I can tell you what the current pattern this time of year is. We are having morning scattered showers then clearing in the afternoon. Light winds and temps in the low 80's. When I say scattered showers it can be raining on one side of the resort and not on the other, depending how big the resort is. The rain and clouds will last from a few minutes up to about 15 minutes then sunny skies.

Shoot me a message as the weekend nears and I'll try and update.

Saludos,

If you'll read the thread, you'll note that PJT stopped posting weather on Aug 13, 2006. NCSUTURF took over his duties and we thank him for it.

Dear barb111,

For me I really like early June here in Bavaro. The temps are not too hot and the winds are generally light. This makes for nice weather to vacation in. So, no, there is no need to worry.

In terms of having all day clouds and rain. I'd say that's pretty rare. Does it happen, sure, but 95% of the time you get a shower, then it passes, and the sun comes back and everything is nice and clean. The shower lasting about 10-15 minutes.

Please remember, when we give percentages that it will rain, it's just that. For example, a 30% chance of rain only means that it might rain for a few minutes. Not that it will rain all day.

Enjoy your vacation!

NCSUTURF who is doing the weather while PJT is away back in the states is as accurate as they come being right in Bavaro. I leave in 8 days and will not be taking an umbrella or even looking at forcasts online which are really never very accurate.

Hi winterholiday,

It's pretty tough to forecast the weather that far in advance. But in general, you should expect high temps in the low 80's and nightly temps in the low 70's. Just a passing chance of showers each day.

Dear Charby,

Long range forecasting is very hard to do. But I can tell you what we've been experiencing recently. We've had high temps in the low 80's and low's in the low 70's. Mostly sunny skies and barely a shower. I'd expect it to continure for the near future.

Dear Thespian,

I'd expect much of the same weather that we've been having recently. Temps during the day in the low 80's. Nightime temps in the low 70's. Light winds and a very slight chance of showers.

The percent chance of rains only refer to if it will rain. Not the percent of the day it will be raining. Therefore, if it's 60% chance then we might get a shower lasting less then 15 minutes.

Personally, I like these quick showers as they seem to clean everything up. I can only remember a few days a year when we have all day rain and showers. Normally these days occur in the Fall, rarely in the Spring. I'd say the chance of having all day rainouts during your trip is pretty small.

Hi Victoria,

On average August is the hottest month with temps reaching over 90 degrees most days. This month is generally very humid as well.

August is the 4th wettest month of the year averaging just over 4 inches of rain.

There's no tropical cyclone activity in the Atlantic at this time.
You should be OK.

Any information as to what the weather would be like last 2 weeks in April. We are planning a trip there in 2008 and have been to the DR before (PP side) and it rained for 3 solid days out of the 14 days we were there, just a little leary is all.

If anyone out there can predict this one "right", go for it!!! After all, it's more than 6 months down the road. The weather is totally different in the Punta Cana area anyway than it is is Puerto Plata.

My prediction is it will be warm, sunny, wet, sunny, stormy, sunny windy, sunny, but guaranteed - no SNOW :D :D

We spent 2 weeks in POP two years ago, over Christmas (not their rainy season) and it chucked it down for 10 of those 14 days and we had a great vacation ('cause it was warm rain). Don't sweat the small stuff, enjoy.

Never mind the forecasts, they're usualy 99% wrong!!! If you do get a little "Liquid sunhine", hop in the pool or the ocean (as I've said before, "You can only get wet once") or grab a beverage from the beach bar and hunker down under your palapa and have fun!We all work too hard to get away for a trip to paradise to let a little rain spoil things.
