The rooms near the beach are a far walk to the restaurants including the main buffet. Perhaps you want something in the middle? And please don't get a ground level room. I can't tell you how many critter are roaming at night that come from the garden (located in the middle of the building) crawling into peoples rooms at night. You can't help it. Your in the carribbean. They have elevators.

I stayed at the IB Domincana in 2004 and returning this October. Our hotel is opposit the Punta Cana. Our kids took the malaria pills but me and hubby never. We was all ok. It won't hurt to take them though. As for the critters you get them on the second floor aswell!! Ants in the bathroom. If you leave your plug in your sink this seem to work and you don't get as many. (must come up the plug hole) You would probably be better with a room overlooking the pool on the second floor.

We've stayed at Iberostar Bavaro 8 times. Our son is now 17 and we have our own condo in el cortecito. He and his friends still prefer to buy night passes to Iberostar because there is a disco open from 11pm-3am. Its great for teens. He has met people from all over the world. As a matter of fact, he and 4 friends will be there June 24-29 this year and are staying at the hotel rather than our condo because thats where the action is! Keep in mind that the drinking age is 18 and they will serve alcohol to younger teens if they get an adult bracelet. Still- very good place for teens to pass the time. And you can be in your room and know they are safe on the hotel grounds.

I just returned from the IB Punta Cana a few days ago. Had room 5017, ground floor, closer to the beach side than the lobby side. Some coments: a) don't worry about malaria or other bug concerns; we barely saw any bugs of any sort; no worries b) ground floor was fine; not a single ant, and they put flowers in the room multiple times; c) don't worry too much about walking, as (even if you are on the far ends of either lobby or beach sides) it's only a brief walk to the other end. 2-3 minutes * going slow * d) especially if walking is a concern, they have elevators, but getting a ground floor room will save you several steps. (Again, no bugs at all.) e) Teen: Your teen(s) will love the disco. get them the adult bracelet; they will have a lot of fun.
Enjoy! We had a blast.

Thanks Fritztc1.... Great advice. The twins will be 18 in May so they look 18 and will probably get an adult bracelet....... the younger one is only turning 17 in October so he may not be able to get one... do they ask for ID's before they get the bracelets? Or do they take the parents word ....???
