Thanks lovesthesun, I hope she will give you some good info. So we've booked Ocean Sands. We leave May 20/07 and we will be married May 22!!! If anyone has pics (or knows of someone who does) and doesn't mind sharing I would love to see them. There are no wedding reviews posted on this site and no weddin pics. The wedding co-ordinator sent me a couple pics of the wedding site and they are beautiful, but any info would be wonderful!!! Thanks!!!

hey beachbabe83 Ocean Sand and Ocean Blue are on the same property and share all the same failities. The only difference is the building where you stay. The Ocean Sand side is newer and opened in Dec of '05 (I think). I'm really happy with my choice of resorts. If you have any questions I will try and answer them the best I can! And Congrats on your wedding! Treen

Thanks a lot for you help Treen! So when you go to book, do you have the choice of booking Ocean blue or Ocean sands? or when you get there, you go to whatever side that your room is in? I really love the honeymoon suite in Ocean blue! they are amazing! So the resort is actually just one resort? but ocean blue is the older part and ocean sand is the newer part? Its sorta confusing lol. thanks

beachbabe83, when you book with your travel agent you either book at Ocean Sand or at Ocean Blue. They are actually different hotels but on the same property. Confused yet...? lol Some travel groups like Signature or Sunquest (depending on where you live) offer packages at one but maybe not the other. We are from the Toronto area and we have booked with Signature vacations through my travel agent at Carlson-Wagonlit. Signature only offers trips to Ocean Sand. So when you talk to a travel agent tell them that you are looking for a trip to either Ocean Sand or Ocean Blue, see which one is available and which one you can get at a better price. The wedding services, restaurants, pools, bars etc. are all shared by Ocean Sand and Blue. The wedding co-ordinator is the same at both places her name is Ana. Let me know and I will PM you her email address if you want to contact her. She will book your wedding date for you with the judge. Hope this clears a few things up for you. If you have any other questions just let me know and I'll do my best for you! Treen

Hello, We are planning a March 2008 wedding and have not been able to decide on a resort with so many great options to pick from how is one to decide?? We have narrowed it down and decided that Ocean Blue or sand is the preferred resort. I am wondering if anyone has pictures of their wedding that you could send me, reviews of the weddings or any other information that would be helpful to us in making the final decision.

Hi maisey08, I think Ocean Sand/Blue is a great choice for your wedding. We looked at a lot of resorts too beofre deciding on this one. I will forward you the wedding co-ordinators' email and I'm going to PM as well. I have a few pictures of the wedding sites at the resort that I can email you if you want. The wedding package is great there, its free when you book over 7 rooms or rooms in the Junior Delux Suites. Have you been to their website??? I will send you any info I have. Hope this helps a bit for you and congrats on your engagement and upcomming wedding! treen

Hello all!
I am also considering a wedding at the Ocean Blue and keep finding all different types of information regarding the costs. Can anyone give me details? Is it free? Are there other additional services that you can order at a cost?
Many thanks!!

Hey There,
Yes the wedding is free.
To receive a completely free -no hidden costs- Wedding Package at any of our Ocean Resorts, all you have to do is book a 7-night stay in any Ocean Elite Club Junior Suite* or a minimum of 7 rooms with a 4-day stay.
this is what is posted on the Ocean Hotels website. You can reuqest other services for an additional cost. We are having fresh flowers rather than using the silk bouquet and boutonier that is provided in the free package. It costs extra for photos and if you want a private party and stuff. You can also use the services of a DJ for $50/hr at your reception and stuff like that. If you get in contact with the wedding co-ordinator Julissa bodas.hobs@oceanhotels.com (her email) she will be able to give you lots of info about what else you can get and if there are special request that you want. Therina

I'll get to my full review and recap eventually - been busy since returning (I miss the beach) but I will answer any questions specifically and share some pictures via email at this point. I can post my comments easier as questions come in here, but email is still the best way to get info from me anyway.
Questions:
1) How did your dinner work? How many people? 2) How did any dancing / where did you dance?
Dinner:
We had a total of 30 for our ceremony, the dinner will be held at the beach buffet restaurant's - turns into a plated dinner at night. You could do it outside, but inside, near the open patio doors was actually the right move on our part. Speaches - toasts no problem. Dinner was fantastic. We actually went back 2 night later and all pretty much ordered the same exact thing...
EDIT - You select what you want for dinner, and which options with Julissa once you have your initial meeting. Very easy, very simple. We had the:
App 1 Salad St. Martin, App 2 Jamaican Chicken Wings, Main 1or2 Beef w/ Cashews&Spices or Chicken Breast Coffee Ice Cream served on a Cocunut slice
And trust me, we all had basically the same thing 2 night later. I actually substituted the salad this time for the Conch Chowder....Also excellent. The beef was better than the steak I had at the Bodegeon, it was amazing.
Dancing: We had 3 dances following the ceremony. We had our first dance, parents dance and bridal party dance. All that the Dominican Mariachi Band we hired played for ($175 additional). However, that was a last minute decision. The iPod and speakers we set up worked great, and played after the band left for pictures, cake etc. and it worked very well. We also then changed, went to the pool for a few hours, changed back into our stuff for dinner, dancing at the lobby bar, then the disco.

A few more questions:
I love the idea of doing the dances right after the ceremony but my wedding time is booked for 4:00pm and if the judge is late as I heard most of time they are, I dont think I will have time for dances because I want to take my pictures before the sun is gone.. Would you recommend getting married earlier in the day or should I be fine. ____ - I see you point, and if all goes really late, and your ceremony is longer than expected etc. you do run a minimal risk of that happening. Now, the sun won't be totally gone and you're pictures may infact be even nicer, but I could see adding 30 minute cushion, setting it for 3:30, and worst case if the justice is on time...slow her down. Make her wait until 4, and run everything as planned. _____
Also if you don't mind me asking how much did your wedding cost. I know the basics are free but I see that you hired the band and got pictures and also had chair covers. I am having around the same amount of guest that you had. _____ Flowers (bouquet for Bride, $78, hair flower for bride, lapel for groom, and 2 lillys for each bridesmaid came in around $100 US-$130USD - I can't recall exact amount, but very nice.) Chair Covers - $3US per chair cover - they actually were worth it, and they can be used at dinner time as well. So that was $90. Music Trio - $175 - they were fun and added some fun and local culture to the wedding Extra Cake (not needed, for the amount of cake eaten, and the slices it's plenty big enough although the cake is bigger for the pictures, and if you want to keep it for the dinner then bigger perhaps is best) - $15 bucks or something. Extra Champagne - worth it - $25
So all told it was like $350-$400 for the extras we wanted - can't beat that. _____
Also can a person hire the band for dinner time or can a person bring in there own music for dinner. One more thing, did they giveyou the whole resturant for your reception or did they just book off a side for your wedding. _____ The restaurant stays open, but you are in a private corner. But honestly, the extra people you don't notice, and felt private. Except for a birthday cake that came out during our speeches, haha that was funny, and embarrassing for the birthday couple as they pre-arranged it, had no idea it would interrupt, but things like that are more fun than bad, roll with it.
Music, I suppose you could hire musicians for the dinner. Never crossed our mind. We used it for conversation, and speeches, but you could easily bring the same ipod and speakers I mentioned before and do a dance, or play music no problem. Just tell Julissa to ensure there is a power supply for you. If you want music, I would lean towards the latter, that way you can turn it off when ever you want, play whatever, and run your own timeline. But hey, live would be fun too. _____

Quote:Thanx for all the info ... i am gettin more and more excited!! did u have most of your stuff planned before u went or choose it once u were there??
Pretty much just went with the flow once we got there. Our meeting with Julissa was really easy, we added a few features, flowers based from the books they had, dinner from the menu, the Mariachi Trio based on someone's review (it was great!) and everything else was just booked when we got there. It's easy to say, everything will be taken care of when you meet with Julissa, but it's actually true. Have an idea in mind, and you can take care of it all there. Money will buy you whatever you want, the good news is it's a lot cheaper than a local wedding costs.
did u use the photographer?
This I can't stress enough. Yes we did use the photographer, roughly $10 a picture $500 minimum. And worth every penny. The guy was fantastic. By far the best photographer anybody who's seen them in action has ever witnessed. And he does 5 weddings a week or so, he really knows what, when, who and how - every picture you could want. The only downside is too many good pictures, so you buy more than you planned on!
any suggestions for something that wasnt so great or something that was fabulous?
Fab: Photographer, Dinner at the Beach Restaurant, Early wedding so we could all chill at the pool for a few hours before dinner, The Mariachi Trip added a nice authentic feel, The $3 seat covers were really nice as well, they were used for the dinner, worth it.
Not Fab: With no expectations, or over thinking it, everything just goes so smooth, I can't think of anything, or a warning to give. The justice was an hour late, but the guests and groomsman had some drinks at the beach bar, and chatted, while the girls were in their room and getting photo's done etc. Email me more specifics though if you're worried
how was the hair and make up ppl? did u bring pics of what u wanted ... or your wife wanted??
I suppose we got lucky with this aspect. While I was golfing, my wife and bridal party was getting their hair done by a friend of ours who happens to be a hair dresser, and that was her wedding gift. So, truthfully can't give a great assessment of the staff on site.
thanx Elayne |

2 BIG tables in the corner of the beach restaurant inside (which was preferable) although the open patio doors were a nice touch, and we were somewhat isolated in the corner. Each table held 16 I believe, 30 for the dinner. We did speeches and toasts as the dinner progressed just like you would a fancy local wedding. No structure, but it progresses as people know the routine. After some appies people said a few words, the clinking glasses, the parents and bridal party - everything worked great.
FYI - From there we went to the Lobby bar for some saxophone dancing then to the Disco where we did the garter, bouquet toss, and general misbehaving.
Thanks Again! |

Your pictures are wonderful and the sepia ones especially, but full size pictures on a forum mess up browsers and posts are hard to read. You could resize your pictures to 600 x 400 just about perfect for forums by using the free resizer found at http://bluefive.pair.com/ You have the ability in these forums to edit your posts.
