At the time I got married, it was the cheapest of Cuba, Mexico and DR.
With Cuba, I didn't like the food, with Mexico I didn't want to take the blood test and with DR - well, if you have been to Punta Cana, you will understand that the beaches and people are so beautiful.
I can't imagine getting married anywhere else (plus, it the first place where I went on vacation with my now husband and where he proposed).

My parents are from the Dominican Republic, dad's from Santo Domingo and mom's from San Francisco de Macoris. Most of my family lives in the states and I grew up in New York, so it wasn't exactly because I have a lot of family there, it's more because it's where my roots are. As soon as we knew that we wanted a DW instead of getting married in New York, the DR was the only place we considered. My husband's mom grew up in Montana, yet somehow we never considered having the wedding there.

My first choice was Jamaica, but the prices were just crazy, we wanted to make it affordable for others to join us. I also did not want to get married in Mexico because of the blood test they require. Cuba was out of the question because we have family from the US that wanted to attend our wedding. I have been to both Puerto Plata and Punta Cana, and like someone said, once you have been to Punta Cana you understand why people want to get married there. Beautiful beaches, food, etc.

the DR had the best prices, plus didn't want to do the blood test, and the DR you don't need passports. plus my parents live in florida for the winter and thought it would be easier for them to leave from there so couldn't pick cuba. but in the end it was cheaper to flight out of toronto to the DR. strange but true. it seems like a lot of paperwork for the DR, but once i got it done it was very easy. you should have the docs already, but if you dont' there easy to get.

I first wanted Jamaica, (we will be honeymooning in Jamaica) as my partner is from there and I thought it would be nice for our son (my little irish/jamaican boy) to see where Daddy was born and raised. My partners family was against it (go figure, I thought I would win brownie points, no such luck) they wanted to go on vacation, and Jamaica is not that for them. The next obvious place was Punta Cana. Beautiful beaches, wonderful water and I had vacationed years earlier and loved it. The bonus was how affordable it is, we have 5 kids, mine, his, and ours, so this was no going to be a cheap 2 week vacation for us. With 30 to 40 coming with us everyone seemed happy with the Dominican Republican destination. We are uniting to very different cultures in the beauty of a third culture, kind of like our family, what could be more perfect! Dragonfly~

For years I always joked that if I ever got married again (not single at the time)(had no clue that it would happen) I was going to get married on the beach. So when it came up my FH said what ever I want. We first talked about Mexico but didn't want the blood test. Also, they require 4 wittinesses. So we searched more. Then came across pictures of the Melia and just fell in love with the gazebo it's just beautiful and things just started to fall into place. With 82 day to go. I can't wait!!!

We vacationed together in Punta Cana before we were engaged. That's when wedding talk came up (while we were sitting in the whirlpool with a tropical drink in our hand looking at all the tall royal palms around us and discussing how beautiful our surroundings were). We felt like we were literally in paradise. We got engaged a year later, and knew we wanted a DW --- we had been to several friends' weddings and they were all lovely but the same old thing. We wanted something affordbale but very very nice. Cuba (which I've been to 6 times and all over) does not offer good food compared to Punta Cana. In addition, once you have tried a 4.5-5 star in Punta Cana, you'll realize that your room and the facilities are much more elaborate and upscale than a 4-5 star in Cuba. I wanted to know that if my guests booked, that there would be no explaining why things were different from home or not quite as nice. Also.. I did not wnat to use my adaptor for appliances which is required in Cuba. I love Cuba, don;t get me wrong, but I just felt that Punta Cana offered more ammenities and that my guests would also be happier and more comfortable. Mexico was too expensive and in my own opinion, more commercialized. Lastly, once you've seen the Bavaro Beach, I would have to say it's a pretty easy decision!!! GORGEOUS.
